Hi, I’m Melissa Spinks - a registered psychologist and the founder of Thriving Minds Clinic. I’m so glad you’re here. Reaching out for support is a big step, and my goal is to walk alongside you as you work toward better mental health, more confidence, and a stronger sense of self.
I’ve worked in mental health for over eight years and have been supporting people through psychological testing and therapy since 2020. I work with children, teenagers, and adults, and I’m passionate about creating a space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported - no matter what you're going through.
My journey began with a psychology degree from the University of New England, followed by postgraduate studies through Deakin University. I'm now completing a Master of Clinical Psychology to deepen the care I offer my clients.
Along the way, I’ve completed extra training in many areas, including cognitive and academic assessments, emotional wellbeing during pregnancy and after loss, and therapies for anxiety, trauma, and emotional regulation.
I help people explore and understand themselves more clearly - whether that’s through therapy, diagnostic assessments, or simply having a space to talk. I work with a range of concerns including anxiety, low mood, neurodivergent traits (like Autism and ADHD), learning differences, grief, trauma, and everyday stress.
One of my key interests is helping individuals who may have been overlooked or misdiagnosed earlier in life, particularly women and girls who might show more subtle signs of Autism or ADHD. I take the time to understand your experiences, especially if you’ve spent a long time feeling like something didn’t quite fit. My approach is gentle, curious, and always focused on what matters most to you.
In our work together, I draw on a range of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, and Positive Psychology (among others). I’ve also trained in programs designed to support children and young people with emotional regulation and anxiety, such as the Cool Kids Program, Peaceful Kids, and the Westmead Feelings Program.
Whether you're seeking help for yourself or your child, looking to explore a possible diagnosis, or simply needing someone to talk to, I’m here to help. My aim is to support you in feeling more empowered, more in control, and more connected to yourself and the people around you. I want everyone who comes to Thriving Minds Clinic to feel cared for, heard, and hopeful about their future.
If you’d like to know more or are thinking about booking a session, I’d love to hear from you.
